Rare Earths Elements

Providing essential raw materials for the green transition

Rare Earth Elements (REE) are essential raw materials for The European Green Deal.

The Fen Carbonatite Complex

Ancient volcano created a large deposit of Rare Earths

The deposit in Telemark has the potential to be the largest source of Rare Elements in Europe.

The Fen Carbonatite Complex is the largest known REE deposit of the carbonatite type in Europe and Rare Earths Norway (REN) is currently performing core-drilling and beneficiation tests to examine the deposit in greater detail.

The mining value chain

From mine to magnet

The process from mine to magnet consists of six stages, the first three of which will be managed by REN. We are currently in discussions with other industrial players to set up a complete, sustainably-based value chain to serve European industry with permanent magnets.

Mining

Carbonatite ore from the Fen deposit will be extracted from an underground mine, crushed, and transported to the processing facility.

REE and the Green Transition

Rare earth elements are crucial to the green transition because they enable technologies that help reduce our climate footprint.

  • Electric vehicles

    to replace fossil-fuel cars

  • Wind turbines

    to replace fossil energy

  • Digital technologies

    to help reduce energy consumption

The rare earth elements neodymium (Nd), praseodymium (Pr) and dysprosium (Dy) are needed to produce high-strength permanent magnets, used in electric traction motors and wind turbines.

Rare Earths Norway Announces Updated Mineral Resource Estimate: Near Doubling of Europe’s Largest Documented Deposit of Rare Earth Elements

Rare Earths Norway AS (REN) today presents an updated resource estimate for the Fen Carbonatite Complex in Telemark, prepared under the JORC Code by the consulting firm WSP. The new resource estimate confirms that REN holds by far Europe’s largest deposit of rare earth elements (REE). The updated estimate shows that the total rare earth oxide (TREO) content in the mapped resources (Indicated and Inferred) has increased from 8.8 million tonnes in 2024 to 15.9 million tonnes in 2026 – an increase of approximately 80 percent. For the first time, parts of the resource are also classified in the Indicated category, reflecting a higher degree of geological confidence
